Object history
Deutsch: Weisenbach, eine Rodungssiedlung des Mittelalters, gehörte wie der wohl erst im 15. Jahrhundert entstandene, im Jahre 1971 nach Weisenbach eingemeindete Ort Au zur Herrschaft Neueberstein, die 1387 zur Hälfte und 1676 ganz an die Markgrafschaft Baden fiel. Das Wappen ist im Jahre 1901 vom Generallandesarchiv entworfen und von der Gemeinde angenommen, die Flagge vom Landratsamt am 9. Januar 1986 verliehen worden. Eine von den Großbuchstaben DZ begleitete schrägrechte Leiter oder ein waagerechter leiterartiger Gegenstand sind in den seit Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts geführten Siegeln der Gemeinde abgebildet. Die Bedeutung von Motiv und Buchstaben ist nicht bekannt. Anstelle der Buchstaben nahm man 1901 die Rosen, das Wappenbild der Grafschaft Eberstein, auf, die auch in dem im Jahre 1900 geschaffenen Wappen von Au vertreten sind. Die Leiter war zunächst in „natürlichen" Farben tingiert.
