Object history
Deutsch: Die Stadt wurde vor 1283 von den Herren von Osenberg gegründet. Ausschlaggebend dafür war der Bergbau auf Silber und Blei, der hier, seit 1028 urkundlich belegt, schon in römischer Zeit betrieben wurde. Die Bedeutung dieses Wirtschaftszweiges für den Ort bis ins 17. Jahrhundert dokumentiert sich auch darin, dass die Stadtsiegel von Anfang an (ältester Abdruck 1283) den zur Arbeit schreitenden Bergmann und den segnenden Engel („Bergsegen") zeigen. Das Wappen, das in Zeichnung und Tingierung in seiner heutigen Form 1972 festgelegt wurde, ist nach den älteren Siegelbildern gestaltet.
