Object history
Deutsch: Die Stadt wurde wahrscheinlich im späten 13. Jahrhundert von den Grafen von Hohenberg gegründet, die das Bergregal zur Ausbeutung der hiesigen Silber- und Kupfererzvorkommen als Reichslehen innehatten. An einer Urkunde von 1300, in der der Ort erstmals Stadt genannt wird, hängt das früheste Siegel, das einen gekrönten Adler zeigt, wohl wegen des königlichen Bergregals oder anderer Reichsrechte. Auch in der ältesten farbigen Wappenzeichnung von 1535 ist der Adler gekrönt dargestellt, während er später auf einen einfachen schwarzen Adler in Gold reduziert und so bis 1974 als Stadtwappen geführt wurde. Nach der Vereinigung der Stadt mit vier Nachbargemeinden im Jahre 1975 gestaltete man das Wappen nach der ältesten Uberlieferung und vermehrte es um den auf den ehemaligen Bergbau hinweisenden Brustschild. Zusammen mit der Flagge wurde es am 19. November 1976 vom Landratsamt Calw verliehen.
