Object history
Deutsch: Kaiser Karl V. verlieh dem Marktort Altdorf am 20. August 1555 das obige Wappen ohne den Herzschild. Es zeigt je zweimal den habsburgischen Löwen und den Löwen der früheren welfischen Ortsherrschaft. Die beiden oberen Löwen halten Schildchen mit dem doppelköpfigen kaiserlichen Adler und dem Wappen Österreichs. Bei der Vereinigung Altdorfs mit dem ehemaligen Kloster Weingarten unter dessen Namen und der Erhebung zur Stadt kam 1865 der Herzschild mit dem Weinstock aus dem Klosterwappen hinzu.
